The SumoSprings will not decrease your ride quality when not towing. The spring rate is progressive, so the unloaded initial compression is softer than when weight is applied and compression goes further with greater resistance. The difference between the two springs is 500 pounds, 250 per side. If you are concerned about carrying the weight, I would recommend the -47. This will generate a tighter handling feeling and reduce sway while unloaded and around turns, and give you additional load support when you tow. Hope this helps!
If they are black, they are -47 density. Sometimes the blue can darken. If there is any blue coloring, it is a -40. Who did you purchase from on Amazon? From Amazon or a third party seller on Amazon?
